Nice little photo gallery here. A.K.L., nice effects! I like the colour combinations, and the borders / soft edges are superb. Do you generally experiment a lot with Photoshop?

Could well be February, yes.   Usually winters are pretty mild here in England: occasional frost but no snow. Last year was an exception, and we had a white Christmas and a couple of weeks of snow this year in January as well, that’s it. Nothing like winters somewhere in Russia. Do you normally have a lot of snow where you live?

A.K.L., thank you for your kind words. ‘Fantastic’ is a bit of an exaggeration of course.

By the effects I mainly meant borders and softening. Also it looks like the colours have been thoroughly retouched as well: greyscaled and then tritons or quadtones applied perhaps, or toning done; or were you just playing with contrast / saturation sliders, layers and blending options etc.?

And yes, like you, I do use Photoshop, quite a lot, but mainly for adjusting my pictures, resizing and sharpening. I know how to do all sorts of fancy things as well but I am not good at it (although I do like to experiment). The trouble with me is that I am a bit of a photographer but not an artist. You are an artist because you can paint and draw, and I cannot. I’m limited that way. That’s why I prefer not to retouch that much but simply take what is already there, original picture is the best option for me. 

P.S. Oh, and by the way, great avatar! That is the best avatar I have seen so far.

No, it is not. I really like it. It’s such an interesting photo, I know from my own experience that it isn’t easy to capture an animal in action. Is it one of your cats? I love cats (as much as dogs) but unfortunately don’t have any at the moment.

Sometimes I draw puppies and hedgehogs to illustrate poems for children, but it’s VERY hard for me.


Yes, it’s Mitya. He was our cat.  
We have only one cat now, she is about 9 months old and we suppose her to be a great-grandchild of our cat Seva
