Brenda left\had left before i had time to talk to her.
Поставил сразу
had leftПотом проверяю ответы и вижу что стоит Left
Полез в теоритическую часть книги и вижу такое:
Past Perfect tenses in general refer to:
An event in the past which happens before another event in the past, where there is no time expression to make this clear.
By the time I got to the station the train had left.
Compare this with:
The train left five minutes before I got to the station.
In this example, the sequence of events is made clear by before.
Нашел тут хорошие обьяснения:
http://www.englishpage.com/verbpage/pastperfect.htmlThe Past Perfect expresses the idea that something occurred before another action in the past. It can also show that something happened before a specific time in the past
Так же там написано что:
If the Past Perfect action did occur at a specific time, the Simple Past can be used instead of the Past Perfect when "before" or "after" is used in the sentence. The words "before" and "after" actually tell you what happens first, so the Past Perfect is optional. For this reason, both sentences below are correct.
Examples:
She had visited her Japanese relatives once in 1993 before she moved in with them in 1996.
She visited her Japanese relatives once in 1993 before she moved in with them in 1996.
Значит, судя по этим обьяснениям, действительно оба варианта!
Нахожу сегодня PDF вариант обновленной 2003г моей книги
http://www.englishshine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/advanced-language-practice.pdfИ там уже ответ на этот вариант
bothсм стр19 (номер упражнения стерт но он 6)
Grammar 3 Past TimeИ обьяснение там уже переработано, и уже нет той странной записи про made clear
We use the past perfect when we are already talking about the past, and we
want to go back to an earlier past time ('double past').
By the time I got to the station, the train
had left.
Compare this with:
The train left five minutes before I got to the station.
When we talk about a sequence of past events in the order that they
happened, we more commonly use the past simple, especially with quick,
short actions.
Вот такая история
